Brilliant Base for Touring The Highlands
We stayed for a week in The Ratisbon (Abbey Church 3) – a modern apartment bolted on to the end of the old church at the Abbey. Apartment was spacious and well equipped but the layout was a bit weird – it was a long walk from the (windowless) kitchen to the sitting room. You could enter the apartment either via the abbey or direct from the grounds – this worked really well depending on what we were doing. We had a view across the lawn (and the rabbits) down to Loch Ness between the trees. Fort Augustus was 5 mins walk away for shopping or a few local restaurants. The pool was bigger than I was expecting and it being out of season it was never crowded. Small steam room and Sauna were good – great after a walk up the local hills. Loads of other facilities we didn’t use including snooker and tennis. Fort Augustus is a good central location – we enjoyed visiting Skye, Glen Afric, Invermoriston and of course a boat trip on Loch Ness which goes practically from the doorstep. We’d go again in a flash – great high quality accomodation in a good location and included wifi was great too.
