Monks Graveyard at The Highland Club

Ever since their arrival, the monks had their own private burial place.

The large Celtic cross marks the grave of the first abbot, Leo Lines. The last abbot to be buried here was was Dom. Celestine Howarth, and the last monk Father John Baptist McBride, in 1998.

The graveyard is also the final resting place of some former pupils and staff of the Abbey School, as well as the reinterred remains of several nuns from the Old Convent near by.
