In Elizabethan-era Stratford, Agnes spends much of her time in the forest, possessing great knowledge about herbal remedies and nature. Rumours that she’s the daughter of a forest witch don’t stop her from catching the eye of William, a young tutor and aspiring writer. Despite their families’ reservations, they fall in love and marry, having three children: Susanna, Judith, and Hamnet.

Agnes encourages William to pursue his ambitions in London, only for a terrible tragedy to befall their family. The grief tests their relationship like never before, but William uses it to produce a play that will not only bring them back together, but endure throughout history.
